Ethical Activewear

Ethical Activewear

Thanks for clicking this link, because it shows that you are interested in / care about ethical and sustainable fashion. Together, we can create change!

The way we shop, and the way that the garments we buy are created has an important impact on the world, its environment and each other.

Made to order fashion was once the preserve of haute couture which only the rich and famous could access. We believe the new reality is that any brand serious about reducing wastage and its affect on the environment should be integrating custom made into what they offer customers.

There are many benefits for customers, for our brand, and for the environment in which we all live.

Customised and Ethical Activewear Production and Shipping Guidelines

Ethical Activewear Fashion

At Sara Crave we are committed to continually exploring ways in which we can innovate or collaborate with other awesome companies who monitor their supply chains, standards and processes with a focus on eco-friendly, sustainable and ethical fashion.

We believe that there are always ways to do things better, and that you don’t have to sacrifice sustainability for style.

Doing things in a way that respects people and the environment doesn’t stop us from making sure that you will look and feel gorgeous in your activewear. It allows us to collaborate together with you to ensure both outcomes, so we all contribute to making our wonderful world a better place.

Sustainable fashion is about manufacturing active wear in ways that are environmentally and socio-economically sustainable.

We have integrated the following methods within our brand in support of that goal;

  • Custom made and on-demand
  • High quality and timeless design
  • Small batch production
  • Fair and ethical trade
  • Green and clean production for sustainable activewear

Custom Made on Demand

By integrating garments in our range that are custom made in small batch production, or on demand, we benefit our customers through making possible a level of personalisation, styling and bespoke activewear not available from mass market brands, or widely at all.

This approach allows for a high level of sustainability, respecting the artisan skills required of bespoke garment making combined with timeless style, comfort and performance, so that you can enjoy the garments which you wear every day whilst knowing that you are also minimising our material footprint on the natural world.

The short term cost of this approach may be slightly higher, and certainly requires a different mindset and approach than typical fast fashion, but the long term gains for all humanity are priceless.

We invite you to consider the options made possible by purchasing garments from this range, including;

  • Bring your own fashion inspiration to life to reflect your own style and spirit
  • Add your own team logo’s or other team designs to create personalised outfits
  • Create your own motivational slogans to include in designs
  • Customise our designs for your own unique fashion statement
  • Design something special for your own yoga studio, gym or fitness groups
  • Write your own mantra

 Green Clean Production for Sustainable Activewear

By making thoughtful ethical choices about the technologies which we can use to create new approaches to sustainable activewear fashion, the manufacturers in our supply chain, and the selection of natural fabrics such as cotton or recycled performance fabrics, we are working towards a cleaner and greener future for us all.

That is something that makes us feel good, and we hope that when you purchase our products, you also feel great, because your support is what enables us to make these changes happen together.

Fast Fashion Impacts

Fast fashion provides you with access to cheaper yet fashionable garments which continually strive to keep up with the latest style trends, but this isn’t free. Someone somewhere is paying for it, including the multitude of animals in our environment impacted by the fashion industries waste.

The downfalls of fast fashion include;

  • Exploitation of overseas workers. Driven by the demand for low prices and quick access brands are often sourcing garments from “sweatshops”
  • Disastrous to the environment. How clothes are manufactured, and the sheer quantity of them that are thrown into waste each year has huge impacts for the environment.  This Huffington Post article in 2016 reported that the average American throws out 81 pounds of clothes in a year.
  • It is usually costing you more than ethical clothing. Each piece of fast fashion can seem more affordable, but it’s usually made from cheap and nasty materials and inferior tailoring that won’t last, so you end up buying multiple items. You could have just purchased a higher quality garment that lasts longer and probably spent less money.

  • The throw away culture. Purchasing clothing and treating it as disposable, often because it was so cheap, has a massive impact on the environment.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency says that, “The main source of textiles in municipal solid waste (MSW) is discarded clothingFacts and figures about material waste

Landfills in the United States alone received 11.3 million tons of MSW textiles in 2018.

Statista says when discussing textile waste throughout Europe that, “Textile waste is one of the most pressing, but perhaps not frequently talked about environmental problems faced globally. It is a direct result of the increasingly larger and short-lived consumption of textiles and clothing articles.” Statistics

Textile Beat reported in 2016 that Australians send 85% of textiles to landfill. They are the second largest consumers of textiles following the United States, buying an average of 27kg of textiles every year, and then discard approximately 23kg into landfill with two thirds of those discarded garments being made from synthetic fibres which may never break down.

The report, a new textiles economy shares data that, total greenhouse gas emissions from textiles production, at 1.2 billion tonnes annually, are more than those of all international flights and maritime shipping combined.

Hazardous substances affect the health of both textile workers and wearers of clothes, and they escape into the environment. When washed, some garments release plastic microfibres, of which around half a million tonnes every year contribute to ocean pollution – 16 times more than plastic microbeads from cosmetics. Trends point to these negative impacts rising inexorably, with the potential for catastrophic outcomes in future.

There is a better way.

Fashion will continue to have a great influence on how our environment will evolve.

We believe that each of us has the power to make a difference, to ensure that evolution is positive.

By supporting ethical sustainable fashion together, we all help keep our world beautiful into the future.
